"A Difference Made" Essay Contest
OFFICIAL RULES AND GUIDELINES 
Middle School (Grades 6-8) and High School (Grades 9-12)



St. Andrew’s TeenSpot Black History “A Difference Made" Essay Contest is open to all Charleston area students in grades 6-12.  One winner will be chosen from each level and will be awarded a PRIZE PACKAGE. Entries must be submitted by February 26, 2016. 
The winner will be notified on March 4, 2016.




Official Rules and Guidelines
  • Essays must be brought in, emailed, or postmarked by February 26, 2016. Mailing address is St. Andrews Regional Library c/o Patrice Smith, 1735 North Woodmere Drive, Charleston, SC 29407. When sending by email please remit to smithp@ccpl.org and place in the subject line- “A Difference Made” essay contest
  • Each student may only enter one essay.
  • Essays should be no longer than 500 words in length, and should be typed or hand written in print only. No cursive writing will be accepted.
  • Essays submitted must include the contestant’s name, home address, telephone number, school the student attends, grade level and the title of the essay.
  • Each essay must reflect the contestant's own research, writing and original thinking.


Essay Topic


Write about an African-American who inspired and motivated you to make a difference in your life. How did this person motivate you and how would you continue to use the knowledge that they gave you?

Calling All Artists! Calling All Artists!!!


St. Andrews Library TeenSpot

Art Showcase


 St. Andrews Library TeenSpot Art Showcase will include artwork submitted between Monday, April 1, 2013 and Saturday, April 27, 2013. No entries will be accepted after that date. Winner will be notified by Wednesday, May 6, 2013. The winning design will be on display in the Young Adult Department of the St. Andrews Regional Library until the end of the school year.



What types of artwork are eligible?
  • Designs must include artwork on 8 1/2” X 11” paper.
  • Designs must be the original work of the contestant.
  • Designs could be in black and white or color.
  • You may not use any copied images.
  • Computer-generated images may be used, but all components must be completely original. Limit two (2) entries per contestant.

 

What are the awards?                                          
Prizes will be awarded for First Place, Second Place and Honorable Mention.
  • First Prize: Assorted basket equaling the amount of $30
  • Second Prize: Assorted basket equaling the amount of $20
  • Honorable Mention: Assorted basket equaling the amount of $10

 

How will awards be determined?
  • Entries will be judged by a panel of librarians, librarian assistants, and participants of The St. Andrews TeenSpot Ambassador Board.
  •  Judging will take place the first week of May. Awards will be announced Monday, May 6, 2013. The decision of the judges is final.

 
 


Who can enter?
  • Eligibility is limited to amateur artists ages 12-18 at time of submission.
  • Contestant must live in the area where Charleston County Public Library services are rendered.

 

How must the designs be submitted?
  • A hard copy of the design must be submitted to St. Andrews Regional Library (1735 North Woodmere Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407) by close of business Saturday, April 27, 2013.
  • No electronically transmitted or mail-in entries will be accepted.
  • Each entry must include a completed entry form attached with a paper clip and must be signed on reverse side, in case entry and entry form become separated.

How do you participate??  Follow the steps:
1. Log on to http://saintandrewsteenspot.blogspot.com/.
2. Find the picture, title, and author of the YA Book of the Month.
3. Read that book during the next two months. Post your review as a comment on Blogspot or Facebook after you have read the book and before the end of the two months.
4. After you have read the YA Book of the Month and posted your review your name will be enter into a drawing for a small prize to be given away. Winner will be notified by phone or email.  
5. Join us for pizza, popcorn, candy, and pop as we watch the corresponding movie  for the book at the end of the two months.
